Obituary for Hermann F. Vollmer

Hermann F. Vollmer, age 61, of Stroudsburg, PA, died Thursday, October 8th, 2015.

The eldest of four children, Hermann was born in Bronx, NY and grew up in the Poconos where many lifelong friendships began. Hermann was a 1972 graduate of Pocono Mountain High School, Swiftwater, PA. Known as “Stuka” amongst his high school friends, he was a member of the Rubber Duck Company Club, the Rifle Club, and the Chess Club.

Hermann was a member of Pocono Search and Rescue since 2004; a Stroudsburg Constable for Ward 3, since 2011; since 2002 he was a member of the IATSE local 200, who employed him as a technician for staging events through: Artsquest in Bethlehem, PA; The Allentown Fair in Allentown, PA; The State Theater in Easton, PA; Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA; and LBI in Perth Amboy, NJ. He was a proud member of the NRA.

Hermann’s calling in life was to be a devoted friend, and a source of help for those in need. He was kind, yet opinionated, exceptionally bright, yet inquisitive, independent, yet he loved to be a part of something larger. He was proud of his German heritage. His lifelong interests included rescue work, skiing, guns, and motorcycles. He thrived in an environment where he could be of help to others.

Hermann is survived by two younger sisters: Valerie Vollmer of Scotrun, PA; and Nancy McDonough and husband Christopher of Mine Hill, NJ; an aunt: Gisela Goldstein and husband Adolf; cousins: Peter and wife Vickie, Iris Goldstein and Terry Goldstein; nephews: Aubrey and Yanek Goldstein and Marlin Goldstein, all of Wolfenbuttel, Germany; American cousins: Robert Heinsohn of Riegelsville, PA; Herbert Eckhoff and wife Lisa Mucci of Wichita, KS; Paul Eckhoff and wife Kammi of Colorado Springs, Colorado, their children and grandchildren. Hermann was predeceased by his parents, Hermann and Valeska Vollmer, and a younger sister, Suzanne Eileen. Hermann was of the Lutheran faith.

The family wishes to express its gratitude to Hermann’s longtime friends and compassionate caregivers: Larry and Linda Bailey of Stroudsburg, PA. Their tireless support and care were such a blessing in his life, especially during this past year.

A memorial service will be held at The Kresge Funeral Home in Brodheadsville, PA on November 7th, at 4:00 PM with a visitation from 2:00 to 4:00. A private interment will occur at a later date.
