Dorothy A. (Burkhardt) Smale, 72, of Bowmanstown, passed away Friday, July 13 in St. Luke's Hospital- Fountain Hill.

She was the loving daughter of the late George Burkhardt and the late Edith (Borger) Burkhardt-Ginder.

She was a member of the Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kresgeville.

Dorothy graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 1963. She worked as the mail carrier for the Kunkletown US Postal Service for over thirty years until retiring in 2002.

She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother, and she always enjoyed coming to watch her grandchildren play in their sporting events.

She is survived by her son, Richard Smale and wife Denise of Kresgeville; two daughters, Stacey Blowars and husband Chris, Susan Acevedo and husband Joseph, both of Bethlehem; her sister, Marjorie Kleppinger of Kresgeville; six grandchildren, Ryan and Justin Blowars, Connor and Korinne Acevedo, Jack and Sam Smale. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Richard Smale, her companion, Paul Scitney, and her brother, Michael Burkhardt.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 19 at 8:00 PM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. There will be a private burial of the ashes in Trachsville Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 19 at 6:00 PM until the time of the service.
