Dorothy E. "Dottie" Meckes, 96, of Lehighton, passed away Tuesday, March 20 in Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was the wife of the late Elmer Meckes.

Born in Towamensing Township, she was the daughter of the late Martin Serfass and the late Esther (Christman) Serfass.

She was a member of the Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Dottie was a member and former officer of the Order of The Eastern Star in Lehighton. She enjoyed traveling and visited many places such as Hawaii, Alaska, and Europe. She loved visiting her daughter Linda in Clearwater, FL, and enjoyed sailing on the family boat. She also enjoyed shopping, dining, and gathering around with the family and playing the card game, Pinochle. Dottie was a very loving, kind, and caring Mother, and she will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Meckes of Clearwater, FL; a son, Kevin Meckes of Lehighton; a brother, Richard Serfass of Bethlehem; three grandchildren, Fawn, Kyle, and Kevin; and four great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Keith Meckes, and a sister, Pauline Krechel.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 25 at 1:30 PM from the Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Brian Holben officiating. A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 25 at 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Jerusalem Lutheran Cemetery.
