Obituary for James W. Ziegenfus

James W. Ziegenfus, 78, of Saylorsburg died on Friday, May 5 in the VNA/Hospice House in East Stroudsburg.

He was the husband of Eileen K. (Bittenbender) Ziegenfus with whom he celebrated 17 years of marriage.

Born March 27, 1939 in Saylorsburg, where he resided for over sixty years, he was a son of the late John and Lillian (Shoemaker) Ziegenfus.

He worked as a concrete laborer for seventeen years and then for thirty years at Supradur Manufacturing (later GAF Corp.) in Wind Gap.

He honorably served in the Army infantry from 1962-1964 in Berlin Germany.

He was a member of Mt. Eaton Church in Saylorsburg, the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Co. and the VFW Post 739 in Bangor. He was also an avid collector of old carnival glass for forty five years.

In addition to his wife Eileen, he is survived by a son Jesse; three stepchildren, Lynn Handlovic, MIchele Bonser and Troy Bittenbender Sr.;two brothers, Weldon and his wife Judy of Palmerton and Brooks and his wife Janet of Gilbert; two sisters, Joan Frank of Palmerton and Janet Gower of Saylorsburg; a sister-in-law, Diana Ziegenfus of Saylorsburg; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law Elaine and Paul Hawk of Saylorsburg; a brother, Tommy and brother-in-laws, Frank Frank and Merlin Gower.

Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Mt. Eaton Cemetery, Saylorsburg.
