Ruth A.  Smith (Quinn)
Ruth A. Smith, 70, of Saylorsburg, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Sunday, March 26 at Alexandria Manor in Nazareth.

She was the wife of Brian Smith. They would have observed their 43 wedding anniversary on April 6.

Born February 8, 1947 in Ozone Park, Queens, NY she was a daughter of the late George J. and Dorothy A. (Bengraff) Quinn.

A graduate of Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn, NY, Ruth had worked as a retail clerk for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board in Brodheadsville for seven years, retiring in 2007. Prior to that, she had worked at Turkey Hill and Jamesway, both in Gilbert and at Sears in Stroudsburg.

Ruth was a Past President of the Western Pocono Lioness Club and also a Past President of the West End Ambulance Auxiliary. She volunteered her time for the community in many other ways too numerous to mention.

She was a member of the Effort United Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her daughter, Jacquelyn M. Sylvan and her husband Martin of Palmerton; grandson Henry A. Sylvan and a sister, Judy M. Caracciolo and her husband George of Newtown, CT.

She was an extraordinary woman who led an ordinary life.

There will be a viewing from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM on both Wednesday and Thursday, March 29th and 30th from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 31 at the Effort United Methodist Church, 178 Merwinsburg Road, Effort, PA with Rev. Robin Fisher officiating. Private burial will take place in the Gilbert Cemetery.
