Obituary for William M. "Bill" Viskup

William M. Viskup, 86, of Kunkletown, formerly of Effort, PA and Elmhurst, NY passed away on Sunday, October 30 in the Pocono Health System Hospice House, East Stroudsburg.

He was the husband of Anna (Hornak) Viskup. They had observed their 62nd wedding anniversary on October 9.

Born in Little Falls, NY, he was a son of the late Paul and Kristina (Pitek) Viskup.

A hard-working honest man, Bill was a steelworker with Washburn Wire in New York City for over twenty years retiring in 1976. Later he worked as a concierge for the Sutton House in New York City before retiring in 1994. He moved from Elmhusrt, NY to Effort in 1995..

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert.

Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. While living in NY he spent a lot of his spare time visiting with families in area nursing homes and hospitals and he did the same with the American Legion after moving to PA. He was an avid hunter and a member of the Tatra Rod & Gun Club in NY.

He was a member and President for many years of the Holy Trinity Slovak Lutheran Church in New York City and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Effort.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Viera Engstrom-Pertz and her husband Jeffrey Pertz of Whitestone, NY and Elizabeth Panik of Clifton, NJ; a son, William T. Viskup of East Elmhurst, NY; four grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer, William and Kristina and a great granddaughter, Olivia.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 3 from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville, with Rev. Manuel Stivers and Rev. Michael Misina officiating. Cremation will follow in the H. G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. The American Legion will hold military honors at 12:45 PM on Thursday.
