Maria Tomala, 80, of Effort, died Tuesday, August 18 in Geisinger South Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

She was the wife of the late Walter Tomala.

Born in Poland, she was the daughter of Aleksander and Stefania (Chrusciel) Szymanski.

Her field of work for many years was handling food service and event planning. She worked at Westfield Country Club in New Jersey for over 20 years.

She is survived by two sons, Zbigniew Tomala and wife Ella of Effort, Andrew Tomala of Effort; a daughter, Ursula Sofia of Albrightsville; a brother, Chris of Poland; five grandchildren, Christopher, Natasha, Tracy, Michael, and Kelly; five great-grandchildren, Desiree, Madelyn, Kane Jr., Mason, and Jagger.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 21 from 2:00 PM-8:00 PM from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209, Brodheadsville. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 22 at 9:30 AM from the Kresge Funeral Home. Interment will take place at the Buena Vista Cemetery, Brodheadsville after the funeral service.
